Story Behind The Scarf

The Hermès En Attendant Ulysse scarf tells the story of Penelope, wife of Ulysses (also known as Odysseus), from Greek mythology. The design, created by Florence Manlik, depicts Penelope weaving a tapestry to delay her suitors while her husband is away fighting in the Trojan War. She cleverly weaves during the day but unravels her work at night, a ruse to avoid marriage until Ulysses returns.

The scarf design also draws inspiration from Eastern European folklore and traditional costumes.
