Story Behind The Scarf

The Hermès "Appaloosa des Steppes" scarf, designed by Alice Shirley in 2017, tells a story of cultural fusion and equine beauty. It combines the spotted coat of the Appaloosa horse with the traditional felted wool rug designs, called shyrdaks, of Kyrgyz nomads. The design draws inspiration from both the Appaloosa horse, known for its unique markings, and the intricate patterns of Kyrgyz shyrdaks, which are passed down through generations.

Vintage Hermès 100% silk Appaloosa des Steppes scarf hand-sewn onto a linen mat and custom framed in a 7/8" gilt wood frame to celebrate the unique character of the hand-rolled edges. Hanging hardware included.
